Project Overview
Project Details: With aging dormitories on campus, Brown University is spending about $90 million dollars in upgrades over the next four years. Most of the work includes, demolition, painting and new flooring. During the summer of 2016, Team Ruggieri was part of the work in two dorms, Barbour and Perkins Hall. The total rooms in both dorms were about 360 rooms, and common hallways, and student spaces, including kitchens and bathrooms. Brown wanted to focus on new designs and getting away from traditional vinyl composition tile, so the school has upgraded to vinyl plank in the residence rooms and suites.
Project Products: The project included Armstrong Natural Creations and Mannington vinyl plank choices . The hallways were installed in Milliken carpet tile to provide a nicer look than the broadloom with borders that were there before. This also made the facilities/housekeeping departments happy, as it will be easier for them to clean up the carpet when someone spills on it. Other Starnet vendor products used were; Armstrong, Daltile, Ardex, Mapei, Johnsonite, Roppe, Mats Inc. Timing was tight for this project completion as areas were not turned over to Team Ruggieri until after July 4th and needed to be completed for arrival of new furniture for August 1st. Overall the Brown Residence Life, and students are very happy with the look of the dorms, and functionality of the flooring that was chosen.
